How to Find the Digital Photo Frame For You
If the concept of finding a separate device to view your photos seem alien to you, here are the basic things to consider. Digital photo frames is, as its name implies, your basic photo frame that displays digital photos. While this is simple enough, the makers of the basic models have incorporated more features and add-on's to make the viewing experience more expedient and more well-rounded. Of course, this is all grounded on the recent rise in the development of digital photography that virtually eliminated the often cumbersome method of developing negatives. One primary advantage the digital photo frame holds is it allows bypassing the computer or printing, which tend to be pricey.
Size matters
Photo frames, much like television sets, mobile phones, and PDA's, vary in size. This is not mere caprice, as each size depend on how you intend to use them. Photo frame sizes range from an almost miniscule 1.5 screen to as big as 15 inches. Needless to say, the really small ones are meant to be lugged around and not to be trusted to be used in viewing parties. These models usually come with key chains or lanyards to suit this purpose.
The medium-sized photo frames, which range from 7 inches to around 10, are both compact and functional. These are more often displayed on tabletops. The size is both big enough to be visible from a reasonable distance, but not too big to be obtrusive. Needless to say, the really big ones, 15 inches diagonally, are ideal for viewing, say, after a party where pictures were taken. These models often have video streaming capabilities so that also justifies the size. Depending on your need and intention, pick the one that will work for you best. Resolution usually but not always depends on size. The higher the resolution, the crisper and more lifelike the pictures are.
Matters of memory
As is to be expected, the really small photo finders do not have built-in memories, while the big ones' can range from 256 MB to 528 MB. Now this is usually of no consequence to some buyers since you can directly put the memory card from your digital camera straight to your photo frame, but any additional internal memory can't hurt. After all, having one will let you store any precious images for repetitive viewing.
On the other hand, a focal point of your choice should be the range (or lack thereof) of the memory types that your digital photo frame supports. The most usual ones, such as xD, SD, Memory Stick and Compact Flash, should be accommodated. Better yet, consider the digital camera that you're currently using and will most likely use and what type of memory it supports.
Photos, videos, and more
The name probably belies it, but digital photo frames have come to do more than just present a slideshow of photos. This, however, remains to be its plainest purpose. As such, it is best to consider the variation with which your device suits this purpose. Usually, one can alter the time each photo is displayed, the transition effects, and the brightness of the screen.
Now regarding videos, it is best to pick one that supports the most number of file formats. Again, check the specs of your camera to guide you in choosing. Pick one that supports the most common file types: MPEG and AVI. Also consider the sound setting of a photo frame. Videos without sounds or with horrible sound quality is off-putting.
Convenience is key
To make the experience worthwhile, feel free to nitpick on the often-ignored extras, such as a remote control, wireless capabilities, bluetooth capabilities, and even mobile Internet.
